Hi, I'm Stephen Stumbo, I'm 18 yrs old, and a self taught knifesmith/blacksmith. All through my childhood I've had affinity for blades, probably starting with my first pocket knife. At 12 I tried to grind a knife out of a sawzall blade, and was so proud of how it turned out. At 14 I convinced my dad to help me make a forge so I could try blacksmithing. After building the forge I had a rough time getting started, but after meeting a local blacksmith and getting some tips, I went at it. About a year into blacksmithing (2009) I decided to try my hand at making knives. I started out terribly, but I've slowly been progressing to where you see now. New Necklace

I made this a few weeks ago with some of the nails I forged once I made my nail header. (See the thread [url="http://paleoplanet69529.yuku.com/topic/41664/Nailed-it"]here[/url])

I picked through the coffee can I put the nails in as I make them, found 2 good ones, filed a groove in each so they fit, and used a tig welder to fuse weld them together. Then I heated and quenched in oil for a black finish. After that I added a decorative wrap with some copper wire. As well as using the copper wire to attach it to the black paracord I hung it on.

I'm considering making more of these to sell while I'm stilling taking tig at the college (I don't have a tig machine at home). I was thinking $20 each, any interest?

On an aside, I had this little bundle of energy born on thursday. She's a full blood Lamancha dairy goat. I named her Aphrodite because of the heart birthmark she has on her nose.

    She is adorable! Thanks for sharing her pictures. You are lucky to be able to have a pet goat. Where I live, I can only have a chihuahua!

    does the goat have no ears, or are they just lying down? just curious.

    Aphrodite is a lamancha, they have very small ears we call gopher ears. They are born like that, and we don't cut them off as my dad likes to tell people.
