Starting a small batch of 3 edcs, 2 of 1084 and 1 of 1095 (gonna get a hamon).
I've got the first two handled, and the handles shaped. Still gotta do the finish sanding and the other final touches. But here's a glimpse of them so far. The 1095 should be HT'd tomorrow night.

It's like a modern day alchemy.
You put it in blank and boring...

A nice small blade, with an almost squared off point for cutting down into the leather. You'll notice the bevels aren't the same on both sides. That was intentional, I like the look of a flat above the bevel, so I stopped the bevel partway on the side I put my mark, and on the other ran it all the way up to help thin down the blade more (not traditional I know, but I wanted to try it). <br />Any thoughts/critiques are as always desired.<br /><br />1084 blade <br />Stabilized mesquite burl handle (found it in a bargain box at Blade last year, can't believe how nice it looks)<br />and a kydex sheath to keep it safe with my other leatherworking tools (my first kydex working, nice stuff). <br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://s836.photobucket.com/albums/zz285/oldanvilyoungsmith/Knives/?action=view&current=DSC08381.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz285/oldanvilyoungsmith/Knives/DSC08381.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://s836.photobucket.com/albums/zz285/oldanvilyoungsmith/Knives/?action=view&current=DSC08382.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz285/oldanvilyoungsmith/Knives/DSC08382.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://s836.photobucket.com/albums/zz285/oldanvilyoungsmith/Knives/?action=view&current=DSC08378.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz285/oldanvilyoungsmith/Knives/DSC08378.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://s836.photobucket.com/albums/zz285/oldanvilyoungsmith/Knives/?action=view&current=DSC08388.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz285/oldanvilyoungsmith/Knives/DSC08388.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>Oldanvilyoungsmithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10271646963583817674noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6919520359615423973.post-26540540631255857862012-04-04T14:08:00.002-07:002012-04-04T14:11:17.115-07:00New Toy!!Saw Wayne Coe at a hammer-in, and picked up this baby while I was there. So, I put my herb choppers on hold for the day, and worked on these. <br /><br />Made them from 416 ss, with copper accents, and hooks. <br /><br />The only parts on these I didn't make was the part that hooks into the ear found them at a local crafting store. I took those, and used a twisted copper wire ring to attach the dangler to the hook. <br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://s836.photobucket.com/albums/zz285/oldanvilyoungsmith/?action=view&current=DSC07952.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz285/oldanvilyoungsmith/DSC07952.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://s836.photobucket.com/albums/zz285/oldanvilyoungsmith/?action=view&current=DSC07953.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz285/oldanvilyoungsmith/DSC07953.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://s836.photobucket.com/albums/zz285/oldanvilyoungsmith/?action=view&current=DSC07954.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz285/oldanvilyoungsmith/DSC07954.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>Oldanvilyoungsmithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10271646963583817674noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6919520359615423973.post-64410195821670214692012-02-15T17:22:00.001-08:002012-02-15T17:29:54.601-08:00Kitchen peppers - cont.Okay, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel now! (figuratively and literally, it's nice and sunny here today, almost hit 70!).<br /> <br />I have the other two's handle finish sanded and stained, now I'll be oiling them for about a week before I declare them done and post them for sale. In the next few days I'll be working on sharpening, and taking finished photos, as the handle oiling won't change the look of the handle. <br /><br />The lower one is the first one done last week, the two uppers are the ones done today.<br /> <br />Oh, and the claying on Mum's blade turned out to fail.
